Is competition stiff?
Yes, very, though competition is certainly stiffer for some REUs (such as the one at University of Minnesota, Duluth) than for others. Spend time making your application as strong as possible, because you will be competing against the country’s best and brightest mathematics undergraduates for a slot. Don’t let this scare you away, though — the experience is worth the effort and anxiety!
