Is Collecting Baseball Cards a good Persuasive speech topic?
There is nothing wrong with your choice of what you want to motivate the students to do, but you need to concentrate on “reasons why you should do this.” Persuasive speeches are filled with advantages, encouragement, and pressure. What great things will happen in their lives if they collect baseball cards? How will they become richer, better looking, happier? That’s the approach. Charts are great if they prove your point, but useless if they do not persuade anyone to do anything. And the current price is not a “reason” to go out and collect. Your first step is to sit down and make a list of every reason why an intelligent person should collect baseball cards, and why he would be crazy not to do so. If you cannot come up with three good, solid reasons why everyone should be out there collecting, then you need to re-think your topic choice, and pick something with the “persuasive” concept in mind.
