Is Coaching helpful for depression?
While Georges answer is correct it is also not complete. Coaching, especially with a trained and certified Coach, can be used very effectively as part of a larger treatment plan for depressions. There are many facets to depression, and depending on the Clients needs, in many cases the Coaching model is very relevant to the process of working through the depression.
Before choosing or dismissing Coaching as a useful tool, I would suggest to the Client that they go see a Doctor and be evaluated. What is the genesis of their depression? What are their goals? Are they dealing with something which is mainly situational or mainly chemical? Are they simply looking to change their lives or to heal the past? And how much time are they looking to put into this? All things to take into consideration.
Coaching, like psychotherapy, is not a panacea. It is one element which has very specific applications which have shown to help the Client to make rapid, long term changes while also teaching the Client how to do this for themselves, so that in the future, they are able to see and understand where they are slipping into old patterns, how to get themselves out and when they need assistance and which kind is most appropriate.
