Is Claravale Farm more or less “organic” than Organic Pastures?
Many people assume that because we do not have the word “organic” on our label that our product is not organic. A reasonable assumption but it is not true. We are not certified organic by choice but we do follow organic procedures (see below). With the advent of the federal organic program the organic label has become misleading. Basically, it is the same old story. When you give power to the government you give power to lobbyists. When the organic standards became a federal law then the major producers and dairy associations could lobby the government to change the laws to meet their needs. And they have. Instead of excluding non-organic producers from the organic market the laws have been manipulated to include these producers. The view of the government is that it is unfair to exclude non-organic producers from using the organic label.
