Is Christmas becoming too commercialized?

I am totally surprised that there is even a debate here! When I was a child (some 30 years ago) Christmas was family time. Schools closed for a week or more. Businesses closed, people stayed home. Everyone counted down to that special date. It was a time spent with family, attending Church, just being family. A time to slow down, to bond, to enjoy spending time with family and loved ones. Gifts were well thought out. It was a special, spiritual time. A time we relaxed and enjoyed our loved ones. Special trips were made to look at holiday lights as a family unit. Parents spent time with their children, we made cookies, went sledding, watched special holiday shows together as a family unit. Certainly there was some commercialization, I remember the holiday “wish books” put out by companies. Remember the Norelco commercials where Santa used a top of the line razor for Dad as a sled. But it was not the mass orgie of commercilization that it has become. Ads were more subtle and the emphasis
