Is Chiropractic recognized by medical/scientific communities?
The Council of International Organizations of Medical Sciences has stated, “The relationship between the medical and chiropractic professionals worldwide has become increasingly one of mutual respect and collaboration.” In the October 2009 issue of O Magazine, Mehmet Oz, M.D. recommended chiropractic care as a better option than surgery for low back pain, stating, “The research is positive on Chiropractic treatment, physical therapy, and stress relief—they all help ease back pain.” According to Peter Curtis, M.D., with the University of North Carolina, “Doctors of Chiropractic are highly trained practitioners, qualified to diagnose disease entities and to refer patients when the treatment necessary is out of their scope of practice. The basic sciences taught in Chiropractic schools is the equivalent of those taught in medical schools.” Doctors of Chiropractic are well-educated practitioners who are required to complete a minimum of six years of academic education and training.
