Is Chinese Bonsai Art only about miniautre trees?
Chinese Bonsai, also called Penjing, is not only about miniature trees. It is much wider concept than most people think. Chinese bonsai can be divided into 3 main types: 1. Tree Penjing – Like in Japanese bonsai this type of art is about creating a miniature tree. 2. Landscape Penjing – This art composition is crated by using mainly rocks. The goals is to create a natural looking landscape with a rock as a focal point. It reminds me of a rock garden. 3. Water and Land Penjing – This Chinese type of bonsai is about making realistic landscape using different elements of nature like water, trees, rock and stone. Below is beautiful example of Penjing art by Robert Steven. It truly shows that there is no limit for the imagination. Notice, it doesn’t even use container. When I look at this photo I see a creature sitting on the rock with arms out of branches and one foot on the frame made out of stone.
