Is China still a big country with an abundance of natural resources?
Textbooks taught us that China is a big country with a vast population and abundance in natural resources. She is still the most populated country in the world, but what about her natural resources? An article in Age Times provided readers with insights, quoting from CCTV’s TV program “China Memorandum.” According to the program, the number of China locations with sources of fuel energy is 118; 63 are rich in coal mines; 12 have resources non-ferrous metals resources; eight have black metallurgical deposits, and nine locations feature petroleum resources. Unfortunately, many of these deposit-rich sites have now become depleted. Twelve of the above-mentioned locations were listed as depleted since 2008, and another 32 sites were added to the depleted list in March 2009. A 2010 investigation revealed that among the 1,010 medium-to-large sized mines in China, than 600 suffer potential danger to become depleted due to their shrinkage in deposits.
