Is Chavez the Western Hemispheres Pol Pot?
Hugo Chavez has delighted American liberals by loudly denouncing the USA at every opportunity, ostentatiously cuddling up to our enemies, and giving every indication of doing to Venezuela what their hero Fidel Castro did to Cuba. But maybe Castro isn’t Chavez’s primary role model. He could be following in the footsteps of Pol Pot. Pol Pot’s communist Khmer Rouge took power in Cambodia when Democrats forced the abandonment of Southeast Asia, just as they now want to do regarding Iraq. He took social engineering to extremes that would give even Shrillary pause, emptying cities and resettling everyone in the countryside in an effort to stamp out all remnants of capitalism and political resistance. All government was by fanatical thugs. One third of the Cambodian population was killed by the regime. Chavez appears to have similar massive social engineering projects planned for Venezuela.
