Is cervical dysplasia a risk factor for breast cancer?
There is no published evidence to suggest a relationship between these two conditions. Cervical dysplasia is a term for abnormal or possibly pre-cancerous changes of the cervix, detected by Pap or biopsy. The most important risk factor for cervical dysplasia is infection with the human papilloma virus (which also causes genital warts). Other risk factors include multiple sexual partners, cigarette smoking, and possibly long-term use of birth control pills. Unlike for breast cancer, having a first child at a very young age may increase the risk for cervical dysplasia.
