Is censorship a good thing or a bad thing?
I think censorship within itself can be both a good and bad thing. It can be a good thing because it keeps remarks that can be offensive or inflammatory at a minimum existence. The point is censorship keeps those remarks from offending individuals or a group of people. There are those who feel that it is inappropriate to utter racist or derogatory language. I agree that censorship protects those who may not be able to stand up for themselves. It also keeps hateful feelings from surfacing and causing more problems. However it isn’t 100% helpful. Censorship may be helpful but at the same time it can hinder one’s rights to free speech. I myself am not in favor of total free speech because some things just shouldn’t be said. I am however for your right to express yourself in a tactful and meaningful way. Racist tones and other language that incites hatred or hurt feelings should be censored.
