Is Catholicism the one true religion?
Religion is man trying by his own methods to reach up to God and no matter what rite, ritual or ceremony they perform it cuts no ice with God. Christianity was God coming down to man in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ to do for us what we couldn’t do for ourselves i.e. deal with our sins by dying on a cross. True religion is based upon obedience to what God says in His Word, the Bible in which case Catholicism cannot possibly be the’one true religion’ because its leaders have distorted God’s word by adding to it and subtracting from it many teachings just to suit their own ends.
If by “one true religion”, you mean the only religion in which can be found the truth of Jesus Christ, NO. If by “one true religion” you mean that all other religions are false, then NO. From the Catechism of the Catholic Church: Furthermore, many elements of sanctification and of truth” are found outside the visible confines of the Catholic Church: “the written Word of God; the life of grace; faith, hope, and charity, with the other interior gifts of the Holy Spirit, as well as visible elements.” Christ’s Spirit uses these Churches and ecclesial communities as means of salvation, whose power derives from the fullness of grace and truth that Christ has entrusted to the Catholic Church.
