Is Breast Cancer Detection Better in Marin County?
On the national level it is recognized that some of the increase in incidence over the last decade is associated with better and more comprehensive breast cancer screening. In a recent analysis of the 2001 Marin Community Health Survey, mammography screening rates in Marin County were compared to California and the U.S. The rate of mammography screening is slightly higher in Marin County compared to California and the US. However, the difference in screening practices is not great enough to explain why Marin County has higher breast cancer rates.
