Is Brazilian Portuguse considered Latin (as in Latin American, not romance language)?

Portugal shares the Iberian Peninsula with Spain. The peninsula is also known as Hispaniola. As a Portuguese-American I don’t consider myself as “white”. Does it really matter? Unless you’re trying to check the box that will better your chances of being considered for employment.
