Is Brachs Candy Corn an Endangered Species?
In my area, Kroger and Target have stopped carrying Brach’s candy corn. Thinking to fool us, they sell generic candy corn! It tastes awful compared to the real thing, and gives me a strong incentive to shop their competitors. Sadly, the Brach’s company hasn’t been doing well. Apparently it was mismanaged and until recently relied on an antiquated plant in Chicago. In 2003, Brach’s was bought by a Swiss company for $1. You read that right: ONE DOLLAR. But along with Brach’s came a hefty debt of $16 million. Although Brach’s candy corn can still be bought at other retail locations, it’s a bad sign that Kroger and Target are giving it the boot in favor of their generic version.
