Is bleeding in early pregnancy normal?
The easiest thing to remember is that bleeding at anytime in your pregnancy should not be considered normal and should always be checked out by a doctor or midwife. Bleeding and/or pain can be a sign of a miscarriage, ectopic or molar pregnancy. However, in early pregnancy, bleeding is more common and does not always mean that there is a problem for the baby. If you are checked out and all the results are normal, you do not need to worry. If you experience any pain or bleeding you should contact your GP, midwife, NHS direct or your local Early Pregnancy Unit. If the bleeding is heavy or the pain is severe you should go straight to Accident and Emergency (A&E). When you go to hospital with bleeding and/or pain in early pregnancy you will usually be asked questions about when the symptoms started, the date of your last period and any other medical history.
