Is Black Studies just for African Americans?
Black Studies is for everyone! We use the definition of Black offered by Dr. Linda James Myers, namely that the physical color black includes all colors of the spectrum. We use the image of the baobab tree because it can shelter and nurture all who choose to sit beneath its branches. We encourage you to consider the African diaspora as part of a global perspective. The Black Experience and Civil Rights Movements have been templates for many other ethnic and social groups in the United States and abroad. You can apply the lessons of social justice and global citizenship found in the discipline of Black Studies to many peoples. Study with us and learn to change the world!
