Is betnovate scalp application any good for psoriasis ?
Betnovate SA is indeed often used for this. As a broad rule routine use of topical steroids in any chronic condition is generally not a good idea as these conditions are not curable chronic use does lean to skin thinning and marking and also to the phenomena of rebound. Here when potent steroids are used for prolonged periods, when attempts are made to stop them the condition rebounds. The exceptions that make prove the rule are use of 1% hydrocortisone which is of such low potency that side effects do not occur and the scalp, where the skin is so thick and resistant that low potency therapies do not work, it is also so thick that the steroid side effects mentioned, tend not to occur. Anyway, it does not result in hair loss and indeed may prevent severe scalp conditions from producing hair loss by suppressing them.
