Benzoyl peroxide is a disinfectant. It is not effective in the treatment of blackheads and whiteheads. A blackhead or whitehead occurs when there is too much oil in the skin and the passageway for the oil is blocked. This damages the pore and therefore clogs it in the form of a whitehead or blackhead. The best option is to use 2% Salicylic Acid to exfoliate because Salicylic can absorb into the pore lining and can help with the breakout.
