As an unlicensed driver, you have no legal right to be driving a car. Once stopped, without a license, the police can not let you drive off, so whomevers car it is, it gets impounded. Once impounded, the entire car can be searched. If they really feel something is in car, they may wait for a warrant, after impounding the car, to ensure its all 110% legal. Otherwise they will merely impound the car. When the proper owner, with insurance, proper valid registration and a valid drivers lic shows up, they will most likely get the car back.
