God does not require a ceremony. God does not require vows be exchanged God does not require a priest or governmental offical to “pronounce” someone husband and wife. God does not require you date or be engaged for any specified length of time All the above things are lawful to do but the Law of God does not “require” them…..they are optional traditions of men. This is the most basic thing that God requires as recorded in his word for Him to recgonize two persons as husband and wife. Deuteronomy 22:28-29 (King James Version) “If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found; 29Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel’s father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.” This is by no means meant to endorse rape as profitable…..but it establishes what things God requires before he sees someone as husband and wife.
