Is attendance on PPD compulsory?

The PPD programme is divided into Parts 1-7. Part 1 – Understanding the Research Sector and the PhD, is compulsory for all new postgraduate students in their first year and is run four times a year to fit in with quarterly intakes. The other Parts (2-7) of the Programme are optional but all PhD students must take a total of 30 credits of transferable personal and professional development training over their period of study at UEA. For MPhil students this will be a total of 20 credits and for MSc by Research students this will be a total of 10 credits. There is also a pro-rata requirement for part-time students. It is felt that 10 credits per year are easily achievable and should be attained through the pursuit of a mixture of different activities that develop transferable skills. However, students can take more than the normal requirement in a given year if it meets their study plan.
