Is asking for bribe criminal misconduct?
Tribune News Service Chandigarh, September 4 A single instance regarding an attempt to obtain bribe, where no amount is actually received, is not criminal misconduct in the discharge of duty the important question of law will come up for consideration before the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The question was raised by junior engineer Nihal Singh working with the Punjab State Electricity Board at Gidderbaha in Muktsar district. He was booked on June 30, 1998, under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. According to the prosecution, Nihal Singh was booked after ex-sarpanch Amarjit Singh furnished an affidavit that the engineer had demanded Rs 2000 from him for getting some work done.
