Is Arsenals lack of English players a problem?
In a word – No. There is a major campaign going on in football at present called, ‘lets kick racism out of football’ and yet people complain that there are too many foreigners in a football team, this is surely a contradiction. Arsene Wenger has stated many times that he does not buy a player for the color of their passport but for their talent and this is what football should be about. Furthermore English players are massively over priced and sometimes over rated. Arsenal have bought English players in the past but these moves have rarely worked out, just look at Francis jeffers. Ashley Cole also, who came through the Arsenal academy from the age of 9 years old ended up leaving in acrimonious circumstances. Arsenal have recently purchased one of the best young talents in England, Theo Walcott, this proves that if the talent is there then Wenger will not hesitate to sign an English player but England need to go a long way to start producing this kind of talent on a regular basis.
