Field archery is almost like golf where you have to hike through the course, up and down hills, across streams etc. Olympic style archery will provide the best workout of your shoulder and back muscles. Not much cardio, but you do have to maintain a good cardio health if you want to reach the top of the podium. So, if you have that goal of being the best, you will be forced to work out to support the activity. It’s not hard to get into, 8 years ago I was in your shoes. Too much game playing, not enough activity. I had back pain most of the time, sometime I couldn’t even bend over to pick up a pen I dropped. I had pain in my hips sometime etc. Then I found the archery range, I’ve always loved shooting sport. So I went out and bought a bow, probably was a mistake, and started shooting. My shoulder was bothering me, probably because the bow was too heavy, then I started doing Tai Chi. That helped a lot with both my shoulder and my shooting.
