Is anything special planned to support the “Rally Around the Flag” theme?
Many of the days activities will take advantage of the special theme. Some examples are a static display of current military equipment such as Apache and Blackhawk helicopters, Stryker, Humvee and Atlas vehicles. We will have a GIANT 14′ American Flag birthday cake and the children’s area will promote the flag theme with craft activities. We have a special retreat ceremony planned for the beginning of the fireworks show with a special tribute to the flag. The Spikes are planning a miniature flag promotion to ballgame attendees. There will also be a collection point at the Information Booth to turn in worn and tattered American flags. A local Boy Scout troop will conduct a flag retirement ceremony at a later date to properly dispose of the flags with dignity and respect.
