Is anything currently being done by our government to help save our communitys way of life?
A- The NC General Assembly has empowered a study commission to report to them by Jan, 2007 on what ought to be done to preserve and protect fishing activities (fish houses, commercial fishing dockage, boating service companies, etc. It will be interesting to read the commissions report due next January and find out what and if the commission proposes to be done on a state level. Then we will still have to wait for any recommended action to go through legislature. Sneads Ferry will continue to succumb to development and fishermen will continue to suffer in the meantime. With incorporation, Sneads Ferry has an opportunity to make its OWN decisions with commissions and boards made up of Sneads Ferry citizens directly affected by any outcome.
