Is anyone here a lawyer?
Why do you want to be a lawyer? There are good reasons and bad reasons. Good reasons are: • I want to help people. • I want to secure justice for people. • I know that people need help preserving their rights. • Law and government are interesting to me and I do best in what I like. Bad reasons are: • I want to make a lot of money. Not all lawyers make $250,000.00 a year. • I can be mean to people and get paid for it. • I’ll get to dress up nice to work. • Lawyers work inside. • Being a lawyer seems glamorous and exciting. (It rarely is. Mostly, its just work.) • There is no heavy lifting involved. • I major in English and don’t want to pour coffee at Starbucks. I found law school to be three years of aggravation, tension, eye strain and confusion. After I lived through that, I sweated out the bar exam and passed. After that I got to be a lawyer and had a job that paid money. For the first few years I was stressed out, over-worked and unhappy. Eventually, I left my employer and took a b
