Set top box decoders are available today, based on the use of DSP technologies. The programmability brings flexibility but this approach is relatively high cost. This is adequate for the earliest market opportunities, but the mainstreet market and high volume opportunities hing on integrated silicon becoming available from a number of vendors. The guess is that AVC STB pricing will approach parity with MPEG-2 in the 2005 time frame. Modulus is developing a decoder for professional applications.
