Is any maintenance required for the backwater valves?
The backwater valve is removable and routine maintenance on the device is recommended. Under normal installation and use, a three month inspection interval is recommended. After an appropriate number of inspections, you can determine a more accurate time period depending upon usage. General Inspection Procedures are as follows: • First, remove the threaded plug or cover and perform the following procedure. • Extract the insert pipe and attached flapper assembly. • Clean the debris from the flapper and/or valve body. • Inspect the flapper for any deterioration or damage caused by the harsh environment in which the flapper must operate. If deterioration is observed, replace the flapper. Flappers are available from your plumbing contractor or wholesale plumbing supply firm. • The backwater valve is designed for easy reinstallation.
