Is Antique Wood the only type of green flooring Carlisle offers?
No, Carlisle offers both Antique and Sustainably grown wood flooring as options for Green Building. Here at Carlisle Wide Plank Floors, we recognize the importance of responsible harvesting. Our woods are harvested with sustainability in mind. This means that our sawyers carefully evaluate each tree to determine the age and growth pattern before deciding whether or not to harvest the tree. If the decision is made to harvest the tree, our sawyers will then take into consideration how to do so while neither causing trauma to surrounding trees, nor negatively affecting wildlife habitats. In order to maintain and protect the forests where we obtain our wood, we employ harvesting techniques that date back over generations. For example, we only saw Pine during the winter months when the New England ground is frozen and subject to less damage. In Alabama – where we harvest our Heart Pine – we use controlled burns every 15 to 20 years to remove dense brush and dead trees from the forest floor.
