Is anosognosia really the opposite of hysteria?

I don’t think so. My understanding of anosognosia is that it is a lack of awareness or insight into a mental illness. There is some evidence that it is neurologically based. There is also often a “denial” aspect to Hysteria. So there is some overlap. It is hard to actually think of what an “opposite” of hysteria would be, as it is a fairly complicated diagnosis with a number of features, all of which are not necessarily present. I guess maybe you are thinking that hysteria often has the feature of believing one has an illness which isn’t really present? But even in unusual cases, such as hysterical blindness, the individual actually experiences the blindness – even though there is no physiological basis. Perhaps a better “opposite” would be a delusional disorder – that is, belief in a disease that clearly does not exist. But again, not exactly an opposite….
