Is an employee entitled to a copy of their personnel file?
Chapter 91B of the Iowa Code provides that an employee shall have access to and be permitted to obtain a copy of most parts of the employee’s personnel file including performance evaluations, disciplinary actions and other information concerning employee-employer relations. The employer can require the employee to schedule a mutually convenient time for the review and is allowed to charge a reasonable fee for each copy made by or for the employee.
