Is an ALDI food store planned for Wilmington?
Wilmingtonians love their food news, whether it’s a new grocery store or restaurant. ALDI, a German-based discount grocer with U.S. headquarters in Batavia, Ill., nationally operates more than 1,000 stores in 29 states. It sells more than 1,400 of the most frequently purchased grocery and household items in manageable, non-bulk packaging, mostly under its own brands. “At this time, ALDI does not plan to open a store in the Wilmington, N.C., area until 2012-2013,” Katherine Davis of MWW Group, which handles public relations for ALDI, wrote in an e-mail. “However, ALDI is always interested in exploring new real estate possibilities and markets.” Heather Tarczan of MWW Group added: “At this point we are focusing primarily on the Georgia area, though we are always looking for new sites and communities in which ALDI can be a part of. Wilmington is more of a 2012 – 2013 goal for us, though at this time we don’t have any specific locations to announce. “ALDI currently serves more than 20 mill
