MR Tel is full of crap, chords are played on a Base, yes i spelled that right,lol,, to answer your Q: most guitar books are geared for upper registers,, piano books do offer the lower notes, but really , reading is a trick all its own, and to me quite boring, buy your pal a record, might i suggest Live at Leeds by The Who, Entwhistle(bass) kills on that thing, and Keith Moon is arguably the best rock drummer ever
