Is an 18-foot sailboat safe for travel to the Carribean?
You made an excellent choice for your first boat. That is a great boat for day sailing and coastal trips. Although the Hunter 18.5 is a more able boat than many of similar size, it is not a safe boat to take off shore. On the other hand, you can do the next best thing, some might even say a better thing. You can trailer the boat down to the Florida keys and sail it there. Drawing only 24 inches, it’s perfect for the shoals and you’ll be able to sail into secluded coves where the bigger boats don’t dare to go.
