Is amniocentesis the right thing to do?
Amniocentesis is very dangerous. With my first baby I was told that she had a 1 in 1000 chance of having downs syndrome, but that she had 1 in 250 chance of dying from the procedure. There is other testing she can have done to rule it out and for me it just didn’t matter. I was going to keep her either way. After a few ultrasounds it was ruled out as a possibility(plus I got lots of images of my baby girl!). I just told them they could test me however they wanted, but they couldn’t do anything that could possibly harm my baby. Best Wishes. Tell your friend that false positives are very high with Downs syndrome.
