Is Amendoim (aka Brazilian Oak, Crystal Mahogany) an environmentally poor choice for wood flooring?”
Amendoim is listed at http://www.rainforestrelief.org/What_to_Avoid_and_Alternatives/Rainforest_Wood/What_to_Avoid_What_to_Choose/By_Tree_Species/Tropical_Woods.html as a wood to avoid and alternatives are offered http://www.rainforestrelief.org/What_to_Avoid_and_Alternatives/Rainforest_Wood/Summary_Guides/Guide_for_Consumers_and_Companies.html It is interestin g that I could find so little infomation. I suspect that you are exactly right on about the use of various names for wood species. Thank you for your question!
From Amendoim’s website comes the claim that “BR-111™ manufacturers hardwood flooring only from timber that is selectively harvested under the principles of sustainable forest management. Each tree is assessed for age and condition. Older trees, often susceptible to disease, are removed first, assuring that valuable resources are not left to waste away on the forest floor. After timber is harvested, multiple trees are replanted fostering sustainable forest practices and completing the reforestation process. Now that that is out of the way, from behind the scenes comes this. I have been building since 1978. I am seeing two things in hardwood floors. Commonly, and that is some but not all, pre-finished hardwood floors, I see a very thin veneer layer of pre-finished grain over some other common wood. This of it like a very very nearly paper thin layer of colored hardwood grain over particle board. It will wear out in 12 – 15 years. Read the warrenty. I still find solid through and through

Please join us to explore this fascinating exotic world. WE CARE FOR THE ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES IN THE RAIN FOREST Our mission is to apply the correct techniques of intervention in nature in our properties, such as the correct management of forests in Brazil, according to the Brazilian legislation. We also sell those species not well known in the market and allow forest management to be carried out with a greater number of species. This fact will increase the economic viability and, hopefully, greater utilization of sustainable forest management. ECOLOGICAL Wood floors are ecologically friendly.
