Is amending the Arizona Constitution really necessary?

YES. Opponents want you to think that because Arizona’s legislatively-enacted DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act) was upheld in court it will not be at risk in the future. Not so as evidenced by California’s high court action in June. Their law was overturned and, as a result California will also be voting to put the definition in their state constitution in November. Without constitutional protection, a fresh legal challenge can overturn our state law in the future, as well. For more info click here. If, in the future, we allow by law other arrangements to be called marriage besides one man and one woman, government will be compelled to promote them – in public education, government communications, etc. It’s a change that government cannot be neutral on.
