Both are excellent for gaming. The Phenom II X3 Triple Cores are lightning fast and the Phenom II X4 Quad Cores are even better. Triple Core Advantages: Less costly, high performance, some have unlockable fourth core Quad Core Advantages: Faster and performs higher than Triple Cores, fourth core already available so there is no need to fret that you will screw up the unlocking procedure Triple Core Disadvatages: Looses one core to comparable Quad Cores, hard to find Quad Core Disadvantages: Costly, uses more power than Triple Cores, easier to find but very popular (Had to wait a while to get my Phenom II X4 965; but I’m glad I did) My opinion: Go with a Quad Core, the newer Phenom II X4 CPU’s are deadly fast and, while they start out costly and their power usage typically clocks in at 140W, within a few months AMD always releases an enhanced version that runs on 125W, sometimes less depending on the frequency.
