Is alcoholic fermentation aerobic or anaerobic?
Alcoholic fermentation is anaerobic or does not require O2. This is true in biological systems, but also look at the use in making alcoholic beverages. When champagne and wine is made, the fermentation occurs in the bottle without any air present. Cellular respiration is aerobic or requires O2. Remember that respiration has the word respire in it. When you think of respire think of O2. Cellular respiration also produces H2O and CO2. The chemical reaction is as follows C6H12O6 + O2 + ADP –> H2O and CO2 + ATP. The water is used by our bodies in various processes and the CO2 is expelled in breathing (for humans).
