Is Al Qaeda partly a construction by the CIA and the neo-conservatives?
Technically, you are not far off. Al Qaeda and the Taliban we funded and supported for several years in the late 70’s through the mid 80’s by the US Government to assist in fighting against the Soviet Union in Afganistan. Though officially, the US never had troops there, our presence and support in the region was relied on. Once our support stopped, it did help to create a level of animosity, which fueled anger and eventually hatred of the US by the people we were funding and supporting.
