Is Akron Childrens Hospital considered non-profit and independently owned? What is the importance of remaining so?
Yes. Akron Childrens Hospital is a privately supported, not-for-profit organization. It has been independent since its founding in 1890 and remains the only independent pediatric hospital in northern Ohio. It is our firm belief that maintaining our status as an independent hospital will best allow us to continue our outstanding leadership in our mission areas: patient care, medical education, research, service to the public and child advocacy.
