Is acupuncture painful?
As someone who HATES needles, I was reluctant to try acupuncture, but I’m a natural medicine student, and during one of the student clinics I developed a shocking migraine, and the supervisor (a qualified practitioner) asked my permission to use acupuncture on me for it, and I agreed… I certainly didn’t feel any of the needles go in, which helped relax me immensely. As montreaux1991 said, if there is an area of really bad qi stagnation, then there can be discomfort in that area when it is needled. In the case of my headache, the needle between my thumb and index finger on my left hand felt uncomforable, but I wouldn’t say it hurt. And it certainly got rid of my migraine reasonably quickly. After the initial experience being so positive, I’ve had acupuncture on other occasions. The only other thing I would add about it being potentially uncomfortable is if the needle is stimulated – I found if I didn’t tell the pracitioner as soon as I could detect even the slightest sensation, it cou
It can be if done by the wrong practitioner! Acupuncture is not supposed to be painful. So seek out a qualified acupuncturist of at least 3 years training and not one who took a 300 hour course in “stabbing” people. Find a qualified acupuncturist here: http://www.tcmdirectory.
if it’s done by me, YES…in fact, I hit my veins a lot… but I haven’t studied acupuncture at all and have just decided to poke myself with a needle… On the other hand, an experienced acupuncturist would have studied where all the meridians and veins are…and though everyone’s body is different, it should be safe to say that an experienced acupuncturist can do a pretty good job with you… It might still hurt at first though, since you may not be used to the sensation or the idea of needles in your body…and them being there for a while too… but it’s all good in the end…^___^ tough it out…
I’ve had acupuncture done, as well as acupunture that they add energy pulses through. Regular acupunture doesn’t hurt, its just like a little pin prick, then you can’t even feel it. If you watch mentally you’ll make it into a bigger deal, rather if you just lay back and think about something else. If you have the electricity added, it just feels like little jolts of electricity going through you, they adjust it and you can say if it hurts to much or not. Acupunturist are trained to place needles in specific spots, so they know what they are doing. Don’t fear them, just give it a chance.
