Is Action Research relevant to teachers?
While action research is not a mandatory part of the B.Ed. in Ontario, it is slowly becoming part of teacher training in other countries such as Australia, the U.K., and the U.S. (Grudens-Schuck, 2004) In Ethopia, action research is a mandatory part of teacher’s initial training (Degago, 2007). In a paper by Zambo and Zambo (2006), students’ beliefs regarding action research were examined and results have shown that the pre-service teachers can learn the process of action research but that it took more time to help understand the benefits and that time and mentor training are required to help realize the full potential of action research. Is Action Research practical? Indeed it is! Already a few schools have action research programmes.
