Yes it’s commonly used to treat herpes out breaks. But there are other things that belong to the herpes family like shingles and skin tags. The cold sore virus and genital herpes come from the same herpes virus. Acyclovir is uses to treat herpes out breaks, either cold sores or genital herpes. The doctor could have prescribed it as a precaution. I don’t think your boy friend lied but maybe the doctor got confused. If it was just a visual exam then some times doctors can’t tell for 100 percent sure. There are other things then stds that cause bumps down stairs. Your boy friend should get a second opinion and ask the doctor to test him for herpes.
