Is accuracy more important than arm strength?
“Bill Walsh has always said that the number one most important thing for a quarterback is accuracy. You could have the strongest arm in America, but if you can’t hit the side of a barn, you aren’t going to help us. That is what is important to us, being able to play catch and move the football down the field. That is a tremendous thing that we have to have in a quarterback, but also, he has to have mobility. The defensive line, at any level, has gotten so good that the quarterback does not have to scramble to make a play, but he has to be able to step away and then make the play. The ability to step out of the pocket, step up into the pocket, have the ability to step away from the first one and make the first one miss and make the play after that.” Any potential quarterback more accurate than others? “We are charting everything we do and when we go to that first scrimmage we will really see. We know that, in the spring, Drew (Stanton) won it in that situation because he was accurate, b
