Is a vengeful god a terrible role model for humanity?
It’s common to assume human behavior to God (i.e. God is sad, mad, depressed, unhappy, vengeful, angry and all that other negative stuff.). From what I can tell, it says more about the people saying those things than it does about God. Some of us who are grateful to God don’t feel persecuted; we feel that what God has created is wonderful, and that includes our own lives. Is it do difficult to believe that our lives have meaning and purpose, and love is much more powerful and important in our lives than we ever thought. You might consider the possibility that it’s not about God being vengeful toward humanity that’s the problem; it’s about you being angry at your conception of a vengeful God. Best wishes to you!
