Is a USPS Delivery Confirmation Number the same as a tracking number?
Many people mistakenly believe that a delivery confirmation number is the same as a tracking number, but we learned the hard way that such is not the case when some 70 packages were stolen from the loading dock of our local post office and we had no way of knowing which ones had been taken until our customers called to complain that they hadn’t gotten their merchandise! The USPS is under no obligation to scan a package with a delivery confirmation number until it has actually been delivered, thus leaving both the buyer and the seller in the dark regarding the package’s whereabouts throughout the entire process. Although the USPS is a reliable carrier, we prefer to ship with UPS whenever possible because they do offer real tracking.
