Is a UL listing required for installing CorrView ® into a fire sprinkler piping system?

0

A. There is no requirement for listing CorrView ® under NFPA Chapter 13. It is an entirely new product falling within general NFPA Fittings category 6.4.1. CorrView ® plays no functional role in a fire sprinkler system and can be viewed as performing as any other threaded pipe plug. Its pressure capability well exceeds the operating pressures typically involved in fire sprinkler systems, or the testing requirements for other UL listed fire protection products. CorrView ® does not intrude into the piping system to interfere with water flow. It is entirely passive, and only provides an indication when its front wear surface has deteriorated due to internal corrosion losses. According to NFPA, Underwriters Laboratories, and FM Global, there is no listing or approval requirement for CorrView ® in fire sprinkler systems. Nevertheless, we are in the process of gaining such acceptance.
